In partnership with the Chicago Department of Public Health (CDPH), APIC conducted two seminars in infection prevention and control for healthcare workers in the Chicagoland area.

These programs are sponsored by CDPH and made possible through funding from a cooperative agreement with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

“A Day in the Life of an Infection Preventionist” Workshop

Training Resources

Attention to infection prevention and control in long term care has increased with the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Programs; Reform of Requirements for Long-Term Care Facilities. This workshop is designed for individuals functioning in the role of infection preventionist in long term care facilities. While no two days are the same, the interactive workshop will discuss the everyday activities important to establishing a strong infection prevention and control program. The components and tools needed to establish a routine for daily activities will be introduced. 

At the conclusion of the workshop, participants will be able to:

Describe the components of the daily routine for an infection preventionist in long term care. Identify the tools and resources needed to perform the routine daily activities.

Develop a facility specific daily routine.

“Environmental Cleaning and Disinfection” Workshop

Training Resources

Attention to the environment of care and cleaning in long-term care has increased with additional regulatory emphasis from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Programs; Reform of Requirements for Long-Term Care Facilities. This workshop is designed for individuals working in the role of Environmental Services Director or Manager in long-term care facilities. The leadership of environmental service departments has evolved into a complex position of balancing multiple priorities and accountability, the goal of the workshop is to provide and collaborate on the daily environmental services challenges. 

At the conclusion of the workshop, participants will be able to:

Understand the comprehensive training requirements of Environmental Services Support Technicians.

Identify the tools and resources needed to validate Environmental Services cleaning as recommended by the CDC.

3

Develop or enhance Environmental Services Technician competencies. 

4

Develop an accountability matrix in collaboration with Nursing and Infection Prevention to ensure that everything is being cleaned on the required schedules.
